We invite you to learn more about the exceptional care Stony Brook Children’s provides for children and families on Long Island.
Our Approach To Care
Stony Brook Children’s works on the premise that children come first, and their families are the most important members of the treatment team. We call this patient- and family-centered care. We adopted this approach not only because it was the right thing to do — after all, the family is vital to the healing process — but also because research shows that increased involvement of the patient’s family results in better outcomes.
Our multidisciplinary treatment teams follow best practices, practice evidence-based medicine, and continually incorporate the latest research and technology into our diagnostics and treatment. Our teams provide a coordinated approach to diagnosis, treatment and follow-up.
As a result, patients receive comprehensive care delivered efficiently and seamlessly. This approach not only better serves patients — giving them well-managed care with a sense of continuity and comfort — but it also contributes to outcomes that typically exceed national benchmarks. Each team is customized to meet the needs of the individual child and may consist of pediatric specialists and subspecialists, residents, fellows, registered nurses, nurse practitioners, social workers, nutritionists, rehabilitation therapists, along with the family and the child’s referring physician.
