Kids Need More
For more than twenty years, Stony Brook Children’s, in conjunction with others, has offered Camp Adventure, now called Kids Need More (Motivational Recovery Environments, Inc.), for children with cancer and their siblings.
Services
Kids Need More is a free, one-week residential program held on the grounds of Camp Quinipet on Shelter Island. The camp provides a much-needed respite for children with cancer, allowing them to simply be kids and enjoy everything from swimming to nature walks, scavenger hunts, and arts and crafts.
Staff
The medical team at Stony Brook Children’s Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology has participated in Camp Adventure since its inception in 1991.
Dr. Robert Parker, the Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Department chief at Stony Brook Children's, is currently the consulting pediatric oncologist for Kids Need More. In addition, nurse practitioners from the Stony Brook Children's Hematology are a part of the camp's staff.
