Our primary mission is to increase access to oral health services for children on Long Island. We do this through extensive outreach at schools, Department of Health locations, homeless shelters, the Shinnecock Reservation, Head Start programs, and migrant worker locations. These communities rely on the School of Dental Medicine to deliver high quality patient care in an environment that is sensitive to the patient’s diverse needs. Twice a year, we hold events that provide free dental screenings for area children. “Give Kids a Smile,” in partnership with the American Dental Association, typically occurs in February during National Children’s Dental Health Month. Because demand is so high on Long Island, we created our own event in July called “Give Kids a Healthy Smile,” which offers the same free education and examinations. . In addition, we participate in global outreach efforts that serve remote or impoverished regions of the world. Currently, we sponsor national/international outreach programs to Chile, Kenya, Madagascar, and the Indian Health Center at Pine Ridge in South Dakota.
