With injuries being the number-one preventable killer of kids, Stony Brook Children's Hospital has paved the road for pediatric injury prevention on Long Island. Since 1986 we've addressed the local issues that cause the most preventable deaths or serious injuries, including motor vehicle occupant injuries, safe sleep, drownings and falls.
This all-volunteer organization specializes in outreach and training, and has provided safety supplies such as car seats, either free or at a discount. Educators are available to make presentations to parents, teachers and advocates. They also do "train the trainer" sessions which helps the safety messaging reach even more people in Suffolk County.
Stony Brook Children's partners with schools, law enforcement, other hospitals, fire departments and emergency services providers, the Department of Health and other public health organizations, private companies and not-for-profit agencies. The all-volunteer trained staff can make presentations at schools, libraries, PTA meetings, religious houses of worship, and other venues — all at no charge.
Programs available include:
- Seatbelt and car seat safety
