From infancy to adolescence, children's psychosocial needs as well as their physiology are different from those of adults — and they are constantly evolving. The Pediatric Anesthesiology Division at Stony Brook Children's recognizes this fact and strives to incorporate it into our approach to care:
- Explaining what we are doing and why in terms patients and families understand, including building trust through compassion and honesty.
- Providing children with opportunities to make choices about their care whenever possible.
- Fully integrating parents into the care plan and enabling them to stay at their child's side as much as possible during their time with us.
